Sunia Geel derives from the Irish Traveller language, Cant. It translates "take care of yourself", and is viewed as an apt name for what Sunia Geel 2 aims to achieve: families being valued and supported.
The goal of this project is to provide a framework to reduce violence against women and children of marginalised ethnic communities and ensure that their needs for safety and support are met.
Target groups include:
The Project will provide an increased understanding of the needs of service users, thus creating the possibility of an improved response. It is critical that women are empowered to make informed and safe choices for themselves and their children. The incidence of domestic violence and intra-family violence will be reduced by promoting a zero tolerance approach within marginalised communities and amongst those delivering social services to ethnic minorities.
